Manatee Hammock County Park
Manatee Hammock County Park in Titusville, FloridaWe visited this park on November 12, 2013, and stayed for 5 day(s).
This is a rustic looking park on Florida’s space coast. It sits alongside the Indian River Lagoon, directly adjacent the Kennedy Space Center on the other side. We were there during cool weather, so didn’t spend a lot of time on the waterfront. All sites are wooded, with a heavy carpet of pine needles underfoot. If a few trees were removed, it would be easier to navigate with a big rig, but we were able to get in and out with our 38′ motorhome.
Our first site had electrical issues, so they allowed us to move from a standard back-in to a premium pull-through at no extra charge.
Their laundry room could use some updating, but it was adequate with four washers and four dryers. They have a large pool, a playground for the kiddos, and plenty of space for group activities.
The park is near popular Space Coast attractions. We visited the Enchanted Forest County Park, where we followed a variety of trails through diverse terrain and saw an assortment of birds, turtles, armadillo, butterflies, and huge spiders with even bigger webs. We also visited the Merritt Island Wildlife Sanctuary, an interesting place that we’d like to return to on a warmer day during peak waterfowl migration season.
Overall though, the Space Coast area is run down due to the lack of a current US space program. It’s obvious that the area has been hit hard by fewer tourist dollars.
