My Favorite RV Appliance: The Instant Pot 7 in 1

Meal preparation begins with the Instant Pot 7 1.

One of my favorite things about our RV lifestyle is that while we travel to truly gorgeous or interesting parts of the country, we can eat tasty, home-cooked meals. It’s fun to eat out on occasion, but by-and-large, we like my cooking and I like to cook. My sticks and bricks kitchen had a 6-quart crock pot, small and large pressure cookers, yogurt maker, and enough pots and pans to cook for a small army. But in an RV, I’ve learned to use kitchen appliances that can do double duty. For instance, our microwave is also our convection oven. In July, I added an Instant Pot® to our arsenal, and oh my, it’s quickly become my favorite way to cook! It takes the place of several appliances.

In the last two months, I’ve used my Instant Pot® to make

I have yet to use it for popcorn, steamed vegetables, yogurt, or even as a crock pot. To be honest, I like the pressure cooking function that allows me to start a meal at the last minute more than slow cooking that requires advance planning.

What I Like About My Instant Pot®

  • It’s easy to clean. The inner stainless steel pot comes clean with a gentle scrub using your dishcloth. The cover, sealing ring, and even the exhaust vent also comes clean without effort.
  • One button settings for pressure cooking soup, porridge, poultry, meat/stew, bean/chili, rice, multi-grain, as well as to steam, sauté, slow cook, make yogurt, keep warm or manually set your cooking time.

  • It has a 6-quart capacity, but a smaller footprint than my crock pot of the same size.
  • Pinterest is overflowing with Instant Pot® and pressure cooker recipes. There’s also a Facebook group called Instant Pot® Community.
  • It’s just plain easy. I’ve not had any recipe disasters. Gotta’ love it when it turns out good every single time!

Not All Multi-Pots Are Created Equal

I fell in love with my Instant Pot® but there are also other brands that sound like very much alike. I don’t have experience with any of the other brands, but the scuttlebutt is that they don’t have the same accessories, replacement parts, or life expectancy. If you do choose another brand, make sure that the inner pot is removable and stainless steel.
