If you drive a motorhome, today’s article is one you’ll want to bookmark. We’re going UNDER the bus. Yes, you’ll get your clothes dirty, but it might just save you thousands of dollars in repair bills. So grab your flashlight and put on some old clothes and let’s take a look at one motorhome service and maintenance chore you can do yourself.
My interest in aviation and plane spotting is probably traceable in my DNA. I’m one of those who when they hear an airplane scan the sky to spot it. I can stand outside an airport watching and snapping images of airplanes as they come and go for hours on end. Sit watching the sky for two aircraft high up whose paths might cross each others trying to capture an image of the two as they do. Or the most challenging, capture one passing in front of the moon.
I like to have an easy RV breakfast on moving day, and one way I do that is with gluten-free microwave mug muffins that can be ready start-to-finish in less than five minutes. To be honest, these aren’t just moving day fare. Tasty, filling, nutritious, AND easy? Who am I kidding … they’re on the menu several times each week.
As another year of our RVing journey rolled to a stop, we drove our motorhome some 7500 miles which is the second shortest out of the four plus years we’ve been full timing. This is in part to client obligations that kept us primarily in the central part of the country. That said, we added 20 RV parks that we had never visited before in 9 different states. Along the way we met lots of new friends and were able to reconnect with many we had met previously.
We don’t stay in one spot for long with our motorhome. As of today, we’re at about 7,500 miles for the year, and we’re not quite done yet. In addition, once or twice each year we hop on an airplane and leave our motorhome behind.
Back in our ‘sticks and bricks’ days, leaving the house for a week or two was relatively easy. We made sure everything was locked up tight, turned the heat down low or the AC up high, and asked the neighbors to collect our mail and keep an eye on things. But with a house on wheels, there’s more to take into consideration. It requires finding an RV park that doesn’t have rules against leaving your rig unattended, as well as extra RV security precautions, because … it’s a house on wheels.
